Mrs. Santram began her career assisting families dealing with addiction, domestic violence, sexual abuse and child neglect, in their homes. This experience had a significant influence on her decision to become a therapist and her approach to treatment. It deepened her understanding of individuals within the context of their family of origin and trauma. She offers tools that build resiliency, healthy coping skill, self-awareness and cognitive restructuring.
Additionally, her personal experience of migrating from a small village in a foreign Country to North America, helped her to understand the impact of the process of Acculturation. She has worked with clients that had to undergo the social, psychological and cultural change that stems from the balancing of two cultures. She enjoys working with a diverse population which inspired her to expand her practice to include Immigration Evaluations.
Her approach is adaptive to what the client needs. It includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy(CBT), Solution Focused Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention(ERP). For couples, she incorporates the Gottman Method, which provides tools to identify and repair problems in relationships. She also examines attachment styles and the process of differentiation with couples to work on effective communication of emotional needs.
Mrs. Santram believes that an ideal therapist is one that is relatable, culturally competent and compassionate in addition to education and experience.
